jersey she’d been saying she’d wanted. Finally, on Ashley’s birthday, I gave her the jersey and she liked it and hugged me, but still seemed down. It took me a while to talk to her and get it out of her, but she finally admitted that she really wanted a Brooklyn Dodgers jersey. I thought back on the whole thing and all our conversations and she had always said ‘a Dodgers jersey’ and not mentioned either Brooklyn or Los Angeles. I’d just assumed Los Angeles because she had no ties to Brooklyn at all. In fact, I don’t even know why she wanted a baseball jersey when she didn’t even like baseball. Finally, I had a long talk with her sister and what I found out didn’t sit well with me. Her last boyfriend, whom she thought was the love of her life, had been a huge baseball fan and always wore a Brooklyn Dodgers jersey. She had wanted one just like that with a matching number.
