FAMILY MOVIES

When I was a kid, my parents were always trying to get me to watch family movies.  The one I hated the most was Angels In the Outfield about actual angels helping the California Angels (now the Los Angeles Angels) win the pennant so a child’s parents would get back together.  As much as I love Christopher Lloyd, I can’t stand the ridiculous premise of heavenly messengers helping a baseball team cheat as though all the saints had placed bets on the games.  Worst of all, Lloyd was his usual fantastic self in the film.  He wasn’t Back To The Future good, but those were heights he’ll never reach again.  In fact, no actor will ever reach them again.  He almost did playing the Klingon who kills Captain Kirk’s son in Star Trek III: The Search For Spock and he completely held together Suburban Commando.  Do you think that was easy?  Hulk Hogan was the star of the movie and not Lloyd.  Not only that, but it was a Hulk Hogan vehicle!  Luckily, they brought Lloyd on board to salvage the entire project.  With the genus behind Doc Brown, that movie would have gone straight to video and rightfully so.  They can claim Hogan’s character was the star, but it was Lloyd’s resounding character arc that carried the entire picture.
